It also includes multitasking, which many users wanted. Multitasking allows you to have multiple instances of other programs open while editing in Photoshop. With refocus, you can refocus one area of a photo, and have other areas of that photo remain in focus.

The user interface has been designed with the mobile user in mind by taking into account every possible feature. There are some things that we did which were a bit long to go through, but we’re excited about what we’ve been able to accomplish in this new mobile environment. It’s also time to announce that the mobile app will have more than 100 new features than the desktop application!

The first thing we did for this release was to navigate the tool palettes with touch and swipe. Now that we’ve gone mobile, we’ve given a lot of thought on the user experience of how the tool palettes should be designed. At the top of a mobile device, the space is smaller, and it tends to be moved into the top right corner of the screen. Which means we have to wake the users from their idle state and get them into the workflow as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Mobile users, we trust that you will support us on the way we’ve made this happen, which is why the new mobile Photoshop is easier to use, even before we get started on the functionality of the tool palettes.

With our intent of giving the tools to all, we’re also happy to announce today that we’ve made a copy of Adobe Photoshop, along with our other design apps, available for download on GitHub as an open source initiative.
