With a new user interface and an add-on cloud-based workspace, the learning curve is indeed a bit steeper.
But Elements is a power-packed package that offers a lot of promise, even to its comparatively more expensive array of competitors. Especially to the more advanced photographers who need a valuable option with a stable platform. For those who are new to Elements (and there are many who are not), it’s an ideal and very attractive starting point, especially since it comes with a free update and a 30-day trial.
But in my opinion, the most interesting feature of this update would be “Real-Time Collaboration,” which enables reviewers in any organization to see changes made to a shared file in real time. As the name implies, this feature is expected to be built into Adobe Ideas, which should be coming according to an idea shared at Adobe MAX. One restriction I see is that the file must be in PSD format. The features may appear in different folders depending on how the file is shared and the operating system. The reason is that PSD format is the least file-intensive and it saves space, memory and server resources. But when sharing a PSD file, changes to the file are not persistent as the file remains locked. So the features would possibly not be displayed until the file is unlocked by the reviewer. Ideally, the process would be streamlined. It could happen when the file is changed for the first time.
