I think that photo editors should be customizable. I know the advantages that come from having a suite dedicated to one application, and it’s not always the photo editing aspect. But more and more folks work in a variety of applications, and the ability to port an idea from one app to another makes things easier than having to tweak on the fly.

The best and worst part of the upgrade is the way that Lightroom handles my JPEGs. I’m rather stingy about how many such files I keep in my collection. With the previous version I imported about 500 images, and each year the number would have gone up. This year it rose to a whopping 1,645.00. Now comes the bad news.

Let me say this is no slight, but I’m sorry to report that the content of Lightroom is not there. This is a new minor upgrade and I’m sure the team of engineers working in there put in quite a bit. As I said above, I found their product to be impressive enough, but especially to be a top feature set up against Photoshop. But I miss my old image library where I now have to turn to new apps like Picasa, and I miss the image lookup feature I use so often for location-specific reconnaisance.
