What is the optimal way to update multiple objects on a n x n grid?
I’m working on a platform where I have a n x n grid. The grid has objects of different types. For example, on the 2D grid, there could be objects that are squares (type 1) and triangles (type 2). I have to update these objects using a pool of workers that have different methods. In this scenario, what would be the best way to do the update?

Assuming you have the same number of workers as objects, and workers will update independent of what other objects they’re processing:
In the area they’re working on (and in terms of the grid and dimensions you’re concerned with), start by marking objects to mark(object).
Create an empty queue for the workers.
Each worker starts in the area they’re working on, then cycles their region one cell at a time. (This is analogous to creating a Queue.Get(cellIndex) from the cell number they’re in, then looping until it is empty; in each iteration, they retrieve the next value from the queue to do work.)
When a worker finds an object they can work on, they walk to it (basically, use the normal algorithm for how to get to an object from its coordinate), mark it to mark(object) and enqueue it for processing.
When a worker is finished with their object, they dequeue it from the queue and do work on it.
Each worker works on one object at a time, and once each object is marked with mark(object), they leave that object and start working on a new object.
When a worker finishes working, they dequeue it from the queue and mark it to dequeue.

It’s an anniversary. It’s a legendary event. It’s a child’s first time seeing an ass crack. It’s a male vagina. But that’s okay because there are things more important in life than asses and vaginas. As we start the day off, Johnny Knoxville is told by a group of high school kids that he was supposed to go to the high school and prank them. He rolls his eyes, but he gets up anyway. He takes a bus to the high school and gets off in front of the school.
